here we are 03:39
hello here we are, side by side once again congregate with mountain’s ragged smile you with your birdsong so blue it makes me weep In the best of the ways i’ve ever known your voice in my heart how I’ve waited so long tender warble borne of rugged road tethered to the gale of an unforgiving winter held your own entangled in the fray oh were the days where we struggled alone fevered search of kindness in the wings once couldn’t see through our own mosaic tangle til we stumbled over time to one another almost missed your ride, coming home to go inside and here you are more here than where you were stepping out of shoes, barefoot toes in grassy lea old ways finding grace to thaw a little oh here we are in this paradise of place a gift that words cannot begin to say crumbling the cairn of stories gathered long inside gentle in our walk back to the world

let me sleep in your arms tonight, dear let me rest upon your shore the only place I’m right as rain, dear where I long to be once more where the western plains and the fallen stars meet under the open sky where coyotes howl a lullaby let me sleep in your arms tonight where the wildflowers bloom and the mustangs roam the prairies ocean wide where you ride the range that called you home let me sleep in your arms tonight o bury my heart ‘neath the starlight let me sleep in your arms tonight

a spark of time when joy was easy angel lit the tree like so many seasons our head among the clouds rise to the light
a sense of home even when we put up a fight horses run free
 hooves aflutter
winter slowly swims away set our worries
on the shelf fade our bitter side til we need not remember day grows longer Into spring waiting on the night
and delight of summer rain horses run free hooves aflutter
winter slowly swims away shining light across the sea salt spray ... cloaking every wave twirling bonfire luminesce
sparks climb and kiss the stars again horses run free hooves aflutter winter slowly swims away horses run free hooves aflutter winter fades away a spark of time when joy was easy angel lit the tree like so many seasons

i used a calling card of a pay phone from the other coast just to tell you how good it was to hear you in those songs you wrote they made me think there was something coming really something worth waiting for blah, blah, blah... they talk about, oh oh every dial tone, every truck stop, every heartbreak i love you more looking like you just woke up from making songs shooting satellites that blew up the pay phones singing we'll all be together, even when we're not together with our arms around each other with our faith still in each other i've got calling cards from 20 years ago

this way we live life sometimes sleep at night rain tap on the window held together by a thread clinging to the heavens we wrangled it down find your favorite book step into the story frolic ‘round the world dog begging to go out a bookmark holds your place til the next carousel ride time out of your head or falling deeply in mystery in the offing reach up to the sky playing dot to dot a new tale brewing picture faring wonder stars align your eyes we dream in birdsong tripping over light collage of quiver shadows climb a flower hill weave a posey chain somersaulting down again

99 horses 02:50
“honey come set the table boys are taking out the trash” we all had our chores, ironing for the girls but everyone dried the dishes i didn’t mind not having to haul that big garbage can across the yard to the road each Sunday family supper, hot dishes passed around trying to be heard in a pasture of words kids table is not as cool as it sounds would I have appreciated it moreif I knew most of those folks would be gone by now, i expect I would and it’s homework and dog’s out and ready for bed crawl in, pull the covers overhead got a flashlight and book in there i get lost in the stories on the other side of the door, i hear “it’s time for lights out, got school in the morning darlin' nighty night” plastic horses lined up on the dresser spent from galloping across the bedroom mesa the manes and tails i painted with felt pens a fanciful color array had a poster of ‘99 horses of a different color’ i can picture it on the wall right now now as I shine my light, counting off to sleep i’m riding 99 horses once more ‘round the ring

hear the crackle on the line in the days we dreamed of moving on under billow of shade trees fields dancing in a breeze and skies that never end oh the length at which we turn into children once again naught to worry bouquets of paper flowers party favors for the girls if only for a time la di da this house that was our home driving by today feels an intrusion who belongs there now it used to be us i still remember oh the memories we cull from a deep and distant well of our being once a pedestal became an anchor on the heart now finds its own la di da where I live now eagles sing teach their eaglets all they need to get goin’ launching lake to tree but to this nest they return again and ever sweeping mountains over stream toting tenderness beyond the days tethered to the soul breathing out love to embrace la di da

you’re my sunny boy blue, oh how i adore you to the moon, stars, the sunshine and the sea you’re in my dearest thoughts And often in my way my furry shadow following me your nicknames are sundog, sunshine and poodle i know it’s an entirely different dog from you…dle i can picture you…with a curly perm when its time for a walk, you’re ready to go even if you’re sleeping shake off your little bones ride in the car to all the best trails nose on the window wagging your tail running ‘round the beach, paws digging in the sand playin’ “who’s a good boy” til the sun goes down again i cherish every day with you you put up with me dressing you in coats i know you have your own fur coat but you shiver in the sun your comfort's utmost my little plum you sit by the heater in days gray and drab you lick my nose with breath of dungeness crab and when it’s your time to go my heart will quiver and tears will fill a river i’ll love you the rest of my days you’re the best dog of the day

houses nestled in the trees silent voice of harmony we walk the trails dog sniffing every twig and blade endless beauty here and yon no fight, folly nor hurry cheerful whimsy of a flower-painted mailbox tiny paper lanterns strung 'cross the porch eyes meet mine along the road a moment of life passing by do you feel at home like i do community pantry by the church playground bursting with love of neighbor and kin canned beans and raisins and walnuts in the shell sign says, “take what you need, and leave what you can” do you feel at home like i do when I’m with you we tend the garden together where plants grow taller than the sum of their seeds gracious bounty for all wanting for nothing do you feel at home like i do when i’m with you do you feel, feel at home with me with you like I do

lull 01:59

about

I began this album project in February 6, 2023, and wrapped basic production on June 6, 2023. I engineered and produced these songs - a first for me. Most of the songs were written between 2020 and 2023, including one in studio ("here we are"). This particular era brought out a wide emotional song range, thus the title,"songs for all the days".
I hired area musicians introduced by longtime music partner, Bill Corral. I couldn't have found a better local flavor for these homespun recordings.
Bill later stepped in to mix engineer the songs and add his musical touch, for which I am ever grateful. I am so very proud of this record, and hope you enjoy it.
