about

i don't write a lot of songs while drinking alcohol. But this one..... I was at Dirty Dan Harris' bar in Fairhaven, in Bellingham, WA. My bother was working there and the bartender made a stiff double of something. On the bar TV was the first season of the show "Survivor" and I thought it was utterly ridiculous, but this song came out.

lyrics

Would you rather I sang a tale of love or woe
I got em both you know
Depends upon the mood I’m caught
Just now I’m feeling a little melancholy, a little surly too

You call, I cringe, something in your voice calls me home again
A place I’m not ready to go back to

You and me on our own desert isle
Survivors together alone
Oh what we do to get along in the world
What we do to get on

One day we’ll get it, it’ll be easy and clear
But today we muddle through
Two hearts, two minds sick as fools

A ship full of fools waiting to go in turn
With hope in their hearts
Love in their souls
Swimming for shore
reaching for the tide once more

Love in our hearts, tempestuous souls
We’re tortured in the way we move
Something in the way we groove

We groove you and I
Trouble is just not when we’re together

Would you rather I sang a tale of love or woe
Or would you rather I just go
I just go on my own
