about

I wrote this in N California when my mom had just died. I was heartbroken and musing at once, and this poured out on Mt Tamalpais, one of my favorite spots to this day. Later, we would have a memorial boat trip on my parents wedding Anniversary, and I'd sing this song. Coincidentally, there were 2 eagles that came out of appearingly nowhere, and alit a tree near our boat. It was goosebump inducing since I'd written the song a month earlier.

lyrics

A bird flies high above, well mama is it you?

I wonder, seeing life through your eyes

beholden to none, there just to be there

I walk alone but I feel you near

shining as the sun upon the hill

warming me inside

touching my soul as a wren resting on a limb

a tiny bird with a big place to be

Today we cast you to the sweet winds

to the water from which you came

return you to your love, your sweet love

the union that brought us all to be

sadness and loss tug my heart

but I know the wind will dry my tears

love sent you to us and now we give you back

to the garden of life

Oh little bird take flight, move on with our blessings

you’ll return in many ways

the single leaf floating down, the scent of seasons’ change

music in my heart and on the wing of the wind

and love passing amongst us all

love one another is what you said

love one another and honor who you are

all your born days

well I’m grateful for the time we had

the love, the light, the lessons that were shared

the gift of your lovely grace

the sweet touch of your hand to my face

I’ll be seeing you again and again

hold you forever in my heart

I’ll be seeing you again and again and again

all my born days

Looking up I see two birds,

oh could it be?

mama and daddy joined again flying high

flying high
