every bite of that sandwich - jean mann © 2012 blue flower friday records we sit around, like the days have no end just like we did when we were little kids, way back when and dillying and dallying, carrying on in kind tomorrow was the furthest thing from our little carefree minds but now, we see the days flurry by I used to love that, when summer was on the rise but the end of summer, willing the clock to slow down alas, the school bus is already comin’ round well lately the zippity quick of days has got me asking why I just wanna slow it down savor every sip of the ride and as I ease my grip on the oars well it just makes the trip sweeter to the other shore and I know you’ve got my back and you know I’ll always have yours you came first to show me the way I came round to teach you how to be here now dancing through the daisy patch of time and as warren zevon said in his last interview “enjoy every bite of that sandwich”

left 04:16
Left you left the highway drawn by light of gold a barn was burning, now the calf is left out in the cold looking for the fold looking for the fold wind sends fire high blisters the night sky while the birds cry out another song dies there’s another gone, another gone gone……gone…..and oh……oh…. all alone world cracks open neath the skin of the sea sky looks down and sees it all collecting stories, a new tale to tell tell it once again tell it once again to be told on and on… on and on… on and on and on you left the highway drawn by the night so cold

used bike 03:39
she lived in the cool hippity-hop part of town she bought a used bike and rode it around surrounded by trees planted in orderly rows everyone who came here felt they’d been here before she turned pebbles into diamonds and shoes into mirrors glass into water recovering tears pebbles into diamonds and shoes into mirrors glass into water recovering tears she longed to understand the crossover between inside and outside she met a man who mused I know what you’re going through ‘cause you and I are a lot alike tell me were your people pioneers of the written word writing ladies books with soft paper covers She smiled and said no matter the story hearts were involved with others she turned pebbles into diamonds and shoes into mirrors glass into water recovering tears pebbles into diamonds and shoes into mirrors glass into water recovering tears she stood up to the true blue test of love remembering the now and forgetting the past from above floating around in the tops of the trees lighting back down to be she bought a used bike and rode it around

She steps lightly into the world starts her day as the quiet girl she learns there’s no need to hide away no reason to keep locked inside go your own way do what you do believe in yourself you’re seeking the truth you’re beautiful and bright as the moon and you’ve found a way to fly You spoke for yourself you stood for us all there’s beauty in that even if you fall the world’s a better place we’re rooting for you go out and sing your own song chorus go your own way do what you do believe in yourself you’re finding the truth you’re beautiful and bright as the moon and you’ve found a way to fly yeah you’ve found a way to shine

found a button in the grass across the street I saw the sweater from its past seems I’ve crossed into a novel by Judy Bloom She ran away back to her old room there was a blue velvet sky that reminded her of her favorite ice cream though I much prefer chocolate, it wasn’t my dream but I said hey I’m game, send it my way though I never thought I’d have to pay there was a boy who used to sing my name though now I sleep on the floor, one day I’ll not fear the knock on my door I move through the day, the night my dear to keep up with the flow of what’s going on here find me a new heart to capture my ear and I’ll go back to sleep with a smile and I’ll pick up the button in the grass pick up the button in the grass and if it’s cold I’ll go across the street and get the sweater sew it back on and hand it off to someone who needs it

midnight sun 03:17
Carry my own torch, to light the way home It’s dark and thorny to go it alone I surmise that the feeling you had is gone I will cry for you when the clock strikes one And all the things you’re missing Your keys, high school, a glimpse of the midnight sun midnight sun Taught you how to bleed, through the eyes of your own demise you want em to think you planned it, but you look so surprised and the light keeps on bouncing off the sound of your eyes I will cry for you when the clock strikes one And all the things you’re missing Your keys, high school, a glimpse of the midnight sun midnight sun There’s that tuft of your hair, that I just cannot touch maybe you’re a little out of reach, or maybe you’re too far gone and this safety net will catch you, if you perchance should fall and I know you’ll never falter as long as you find your way I will cry for your when the clock strikes one And all the things you’re missing Your keys, high school, a glimpse of the midnight sun midnight sun And I will hold you when the clock strikes one And all the things you’re missing Your keys, high school, will be found again Found again by the light of the midnight sun midnight sun, midnight sun

You came from out of the skies Your skin and your eyes The colours of bronze The moon in your ear Twinkled and shone Soon you'll be gone Sailing out on the blue Your old man and you Drifting along Leaving me here Thinking it through Soon you'll be gone Moving through my changes as fast as I can Trying to bring a balance to me and the man Part of me is screaming to say I want to be carried away Moving through my changes as fast as I can Trying to bring a balance to me and the man Part of me is screaming to say I want to be carried away From out of the skies Your skin and your eyes The colours of bronze The star in your ear Twinkled and shone Soon you'll be gone

beach 03:14
in a quiet language no one else can understand beach fire glows and crackles aside frothy shores endless rhythm of ebb and flow both flicker at dawn when all becomes sweetly silent between the waves and storms life is short shared, caressed and honed anew the air seems softer at morning light while dewdrops fly to air vapor well trees dance again in a warm breeze are they calling you back or or waving you on it doesn’t matter it’s a friendly glance while sun dapple dances and flickers between the leaves in that quiet language no one can understand except for the other trees and maybe some birds
